Rohilkhand University Holds Career Counselling Session on Diverse Opportunities in Psychology

Bareilly: Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University, Bareilly, organised a career counselling session on psychology under its Seva Sankalp Abhiyan to familiarise students with higher education opportunities, specialised fields and diverse career prospects in psychology and applied psychology.

Experts explained that psychology extends far beyond teaching and counselling, offering opportunities in clinical psychology, school psychology, industrial and organisational psychology, health psychology, sports psychology, forensic psychology, neuropsychology, rehabilitation, child and adolescent psychology, human resource management, behavioural research, psychometric testing, career counselling and academic research.

Students were also informed about career pathways after undergraduate and postgraduate studies, including NET/JRF, research, PhD programmes, teaching, counselling and employment in government and private organisations, hospitals, schools, corporate establishments and the human resources sector. The session emphasised exploring alternative career options according to individual interests, qualifications and skills.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Anil Kumar Rai described psychology as an important and multidisciplinary subject whose relevance is growing across education, healthcare, industry, administration and social development. He stressed the need to strengthen teaching, practical training, research and innovation in psychology at the university.

He said career counselling helps students identify their interests, abilities and potential before choosing a suitable professional path. He added that success need not depend on a single career option, as students can explore related fields if their preferred path does not offer the expected opportunities.

During the session, subject expert Dr Deepak Kumar explained the academic qualifications, skill requirements and employment prospects associated with different branches of psychology. He also addressed students’ queries and discussed the practical applications of the subject in today’s job market.

Dr Jyoti Pandey, associated with the psychology laboratory, introduced students to psychological tests, psychometric tools, laboratory resources and techniques used for the scientific study of human behaviour. She highlighted the importance of practical exposure alongside theoretical knowledge and stressed the ethical and scientific use of psychological assessments. Students were encouraged to participate in laboratory-based activities to strengthen their practical skills.

The programme was organised with the support of Registrar Mahendra Kumar Singh, Cultural Coordinator Dr Jyoti Pandey, Applied Psychology faculty members Dr Deepak Kumar and Dr Anuj, and Psychology Laboratory In-charge Dr Santosh Singh, among others.

Students attending the session included Aarti Gupta, Yash Shukla, Divyansh Saraswat, Nazish, Anjali Gautam, Anjali Rathore, Anurag, Divya Tiwari, Khushi, Sahdev, Pooja, Swalaha and Sindhu Raghav.

The session provided students with practical insights into the expanding scope of psychology, postgraduate education, research, employment, self-employment and alternative career pathways.
